Choosing the Best Path

Back in my much younger days, which was predominantly lived during the 90s, video games were expanding their reach and influence. That decade was full of corporate competition between two developing heavyweights, Sega and Nintendo. It would be known as the Great Console War, and out of it came the fruits of competitive engineering. By…Read more Choosing the Best Path

Up Up Down Down Devotionals

I am in my early 30’s, so I remember the days in which arcades were actually fun places visit. In the small town where I spent most of my summers, there was a local pool where kids would go to escape the nasty thick humidity of the Kansas “sloppy wet heat”. Sure, I enjoyed swimming, but the real reason that I went to the pool was to play the two arcade machines that were posted right outside of the locker rooms. I remember vividly that the one on the left was Dig-Dug, a frustrating arcade game that required you to dig into the earth and pump up monsters with your magic vacuum and watch them explode. The only thing I was good at in that game was dying. The one on the right was the real deal, the big enchilada, the creme of the crop; it was none other…

Accept No Substitutes

I have an old college friend that I will occasionally play PC games with via Steam. He, like myself, enjoys good indie titles and is always on the hunt for great games that harken back to the golden age of gaming. Justin (that’s his name) has an eye for retro-style video games that have similar…Read more Accept No Substitutes

When the Flood Overwhelms You

Life is not all about video games. If that were the case then none of us would leave our homes to experience what is in the great outdoors. That is one of the reasons why I picked up the incredible…Read more The Easy Mode for Life…Oh Wait, Nevermind

Attaching, Detaching, and Reattaching to Faith

There is no question that video games are pieces of art. Sure, maybe that premise was questioned at one point, but now it appears as if the bulk of society can concur that video games are indeed artistic creations. The content within them causes players to experience real emotion as they laugh, cry, and rage…Read more Attaching, Detaching, and Reattaching to Faith

You Can’t Live Without Direction

Video games have been around for roughly 40 years. From the earliest arcade cabinets to the newest systems, games are always played by using controls. As a fan of classic and modern gaming alike, I have made it a personal goal of mine to own at least one controller of ever gaming console that has…Read more You Can’t Live Without Direction

The Hardest Teacher

If there is one question that pastors get asked more than any other it is this: “why does God allow for His people to suffer? If God is so good then why would He let his beloved people wallow in a hospital bed wracked with cancer or self-destruct from mental illness? Where is the justice…Read more The Hardest Teacher

Between Darkness and Light

Just to let you know, I am currently very involved with playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Very involved! This is a title that I waited on for quite a while, and when it finally dropped I felt as if the culmination of my childhood flooded right back into my life. All of my favorite video…Read more Between Darkness and Light
